Surgery

The Department was created since the inception of the hospital in 1998. It was first granted partial accreditation to train residents for Membership by both the West African College of Surgeons and National Postgraduate Medical College in 2011. The WACS membership accreditation was renewed and upgraded to full accreditation in 2016 while that of NPMCN was upgraded to full accreditation in 2021. It was also granted full fellowship accreditation in General surgery in March 2022.

The Department has continued to grow in strength and currently has 14 full time Consultants across various subspecialties including General surgery, Orthopedic surgery, Urology, Pediatric surgery, Neurosurgery and Plastic and reconstructive surgery. In addition, it has eminent visiting consultants across various subspecialties. It also has two senior residents currently training as cardiothoraxic surgeons.
