FAMILY MEDICINE
The department of Family Medicine is the first point of contact of all patients seeking medical care in the hospital, often referred to as “the face of the hospital”. The department offers specialized medical care to all patients irrespective of age, gender or ailment on out-patient basis and co-manages with other specialties for those that need further care.
It also offers residency training for fellowship in West African College of physician (WACP) and National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN). The department is deeply involved in research to improve patient care and contribute to the global body of knowledge.
Family Medicine Department has the following units/clinics:

- Female Outpatient Clinic
- Retainership Clinic/ward
- NHIS Clinic
- Action (HIV/AIDS) Clinic

SERVICES RENDERED
- OUTPATIENT CLINIC:
The Clinic attends to all patients with new complaints or exacerbation of an existing problem. It utilizes a Patient centered clinical method of care in the evaluation of patients where investigations and prescriptions are made as the patient’s conditions warrant as well as follow-up and referral schedule as appropriate. The clinic has a minor theatre (MOT) which handles wound dressing, minor incisions/drainage, post-operative stitch removal and catheter insertion.
Patients in need of urgent attention are taken to the consulting/resuscitation rooms for intervention while those in need of further emergency care/observations are referred to the emergency units.
- NHIA CLINIC
National Health Insurance Act (NHIA) Clinic formerly known as National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Clinic was established under the NHIS act 1999 with the vision of improving access to quality and affordable health care for all Nigerians. FTH Katsina is among the NHIA accredited institutions in the state.
The institution provides primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services to NHIA enrollees as stipulated in the current NHIA operational guidelines.
- MEDICAL RETAINERSHIP CLINIC
Medical Retainership Clinic is a private wing of the hospital comprising of a laboratory and pharmacy units. Clients are attended to with minimum delay. The Clinic provides patient centred care and ensures satisfactory service delivery, arrange for follow-up and coordinate care with other specialists. The Clinic also runs ANC services and performs minor procedures for its clients.
- ACTION PROJECT CLINIC
The Clinic takes care of patients living with HIV. It has a separate pharmacy, laboratory, voluntary and testing units which ensure utmost privacy of patients. The Clinic also conducts home visit to supervise clients compliance with their medications.
