DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHESIA
Department of Anaesthesia is made up of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Units.
It is responsible for patient care throughout the surgical experience: before, during, and after the surgery itself.
The department examines patients before surgery to assess their health and make decisions to ensure anesthesia care is as safe and effective as possible by monitoring and controlling the patient’s vital life functions, including heart rate and rhythm, breathing, blood pressure, body temperature and body fluid balance.
SERVICES RENDERED
- Anaesthesia services
- Resuscitation services across the hospital as well as training residents on rotation from other departments on resuscitation skills.
- Provision of critical care services including mechanical ventilation for patients admitted ICU & HDU
- Provision of epidural analgesia for parturient in labour
- Setting up Central Venous Access especially for the purpose of resuscitation and haemodialysis.
- Training of hospital staff and outsiders on Basic and Advanced Life Support
- Provision of Anaesthesia training for resident doctors as well as conducting research on issues related to anaesthesia and critical care.
